Kevin Mileski: Listen/Look

Nevermind

(Kevin Mileski)
2005

Nevermind it's all been complicated
with the words we speak trying to sound so smooth
Look around and everyone's fantasizing
about the times when they could remember their youth.

I look around and I see the signs
"Well lit" I say and I walk right by.
Not even taking a moment of time
just to slow down one bit and move to the right.

But I'm not the man to defend me
because I know too much about myself
to give me objectivity
That's just the way it's got to be
Sit down get lost, don't count the cost.
That's just the cost of insecurity.
But I say, "nevermind."

I've tried so hard to get through to them
Hemming, hawing, coughing and "eh hem."
But I apologize if I've offended;
but my tattered morals have been upended.

But I'm not the man to defend me
because I know too much about myself
to give me objectivity
That's just the way it's got to be
Sit down get lost, don't count the cost.
That's just the cost of insecurity.
But I say, "nevermind."

My acquaintences have told me that as of lately
I've been falling short on promises I've made
After hours and hours of constant explaining,
they ask me to tell them what's on my mind.
And I say, "Nevermind.
You can bet on better minds. Bet on nevermind."

I wish I could supply better news
when it comes to my philosophies.
But I've grown so tired of trying to make sense,
that I've perched myself on a picket fence.

But I'm not the man to defend me
because I know too much about myself
to give me objectivity
That's just the way it's got to be
Sit down get lost, don't count the cost.
That's just the cost of insecurity.
But I say, "nevermind."

Nevermind it's all been complicated
with the words we speak trying to sound so smooth
Look around and everyone's fantasizing
about the times when they could remember their youth.

But I'm not the man to defend me
because I know too much about myself
to give me objectivity
That's just the way it's got to be
Sit down get lost, don't count the cost.
That's just the cost of insecurity.
But I say, "nevermind."
Bet on better minds. I say nevermind.
