Kevin Mileski: Listen/Look

Chairlift's Broke

(Kevin Mileski)
2005
Kevin Mileski
Well I pulled out of the parking lot
With my mind in a crazy spot
I turned around to see what I'd left
and the tears rolled from my eyes

I made my mind up hours ago
when my heart was broken by a girl named Flo
And I should've known it years ago
that her love is what money buys.

Well I know right where I'm going,
and I know just what I've done
I'm heading towards those mountains
to make myself a bum

The concept here is very clear
I'll spend my money on skiing and beer.
Assuming things go just as planned
no one will ever tell.

That I'm living in a parking lot
in a little car with a lot of pot.
No long-term goals, just short on dough
but I know I can do that well.

My plan is all but started,
nothing will stand in my way
I'm an hour shy of Denver,
now it's come what may.

Now the snow is falling from the sky
And I've labeled myself a pretty smart guy.
I've made the plan and I've pulled through
No one could spoil my fun.

Well my tears of joy started to make me choke
when a man yelled out,
HEY THE SKI LIFT'S BROKE!
My head shot up, my eyes grew wide
I thanked God I had no gun

My initial rage subsided and I asked him for how long?
He said, "Go back home, hippie.
Your season's dead and gone."

I said, "What are you doing to me?
I drove up here - up from Tenessee."
He said, "I'd like to help you friend;
but your needs cannot be met."

The moral here has taugh me some
It takes some time to become a bum
You've got to plan it out, that's what it's all about
Make sure you phone ahead.
